How to Delete Large Number of Files Fast in Windows - Remove Directories with Wild Card


If you need to delete a large number of files using Windows Explorer, it takes a long time with the message "discovering...." .

 

MS Dos command Del and RMDIR works much faster.  

To delete files recursively use the command :

del filename*.* /s

for single file use  

del filename.ext

To remove a single directory use

rmdir directory_name

To remove directories recursively use

cmd>for /D %f in (dir_wildcard*) do rmdir %f /s /q
